How commercial pest control works
A commercial site is different from a house: more doors, more deliveries, more waste, and usually a kitchen or a stockroom that is warm and has water.
The work is a scheduled perimeter and interior program, not callouts.
Talk to the office about the site, Monday to Saturday, 7am to 6pm. We will go through what it needs.
Food businesses in Sacramento County
For a restaurant or a market, the standard is written into state law. Section 114259.1 of the California Health and Safety Code says the premises of each food facility shall be kept free of vermin.
In Sacramento County, the Environmental Management Department Food Protection Program enforces that code. It permits and inspects restaurants, bars, markets and bakeries. The Program also permits and inspects school cafeterias, mini-marts and mobile food vendors, incorporated cities included.
Those inspections end in a color-coded placard at the entrance. Green means pass, yellow means a conditional pass and red means closed.
The County also looks into complaints about food facilities. It publishes a list of recent closures, updated weekly.
The same chapter goes further. Section 114259 says a food facility must be built, equipped, maintained and run so that vermin cannot get in or live there. Vermin includes rodents and insects.
Section 114259.3 says an insect control device that electrocutes or stuns flying insects has to keep them inside the device. It also cannot hang over a food or utensil handling area.
The County also posts short videos on getting a green placard. They come in English, Spanish, Cantonese and Vietnamese. You can look up inspection results by business name or zip code.
Which pests turn up at commercial sites
The UC Statewide IPM Program Pest Notes on rats describe Norway rats foraging anywhere from 100 to 500 feet from the nest each night. The Norway rats live off whatever food is easy. That includes waste around commercial dumpsters.
House mice turn up in food facilities and restaurants. They chew wiring. They get under a gap a quarter inch tall.
Ants move into restaurants, offices, hospitals and warehouses wherever they find food and water. On a commercial walk, the list includes the bins, the dumpster pad, the delivery door and anywhere water sits near the kitchen.
For cockroaches, the UC IPM Pest Notes on cockroaches draw a line between two groups. The American cockroach lives outdoors and wanders in. The German and brownbanded cockroaches live and breed entirely indoors.
An adult German cockroach can hide in a crack a sixteenth of an inch wide.

Do I need commercial pest control?
Anything visible at the front of house is a reason, and so is activity around waste storage or delivery doors, or a complaint from a tenant or a customer.
Droppings in a dry-goods store are worth a call before the next inspection, and so are gnawed packaging, ants tracking to a drink station and a smell in a back room nobody uses much.
A two-door office and a kitchen with a loading dock are different jobs. Commercial work is priced per site after the walk.
So the home plan rates on our pricing page do not apply. Call (916) 818-3863 and describe the building. The office is open Monday to Saturday, 7am to 6pm.

Frequently asked questions: commercial pest control
Is commercial pest control worth it?
It depends on the site. A kitchen with a loading dock, a dry-goods store and a dumpster pad gives rats, mice, roaches and ants more ways in than a two-door office, and UC IPM’s rat notes describe Norway rats living off waste around commercial dumpsters. Call (916) 818-3863 and describe the building.
How much does commercial pest control cost?
It depends on the site. Call the office. We will go through it rather than quoting blind.
How many times should pest control be done?
On a home plan, visits come every three months, every two months or every month. The plan runs on a 12-month agreement. Commercial visits are scheduled per site around your business hours, Monday to Saturday, 7am to 6pm.
What are the three rules for pest control?
UC IPM’s rat notes name three parts to rat control: sanitation, structural exclusion and population control. Its cockroach notes make the same point. Pesticides alone will not solve the problem without sanitation and sealing.
What is the hardest pest to get rid of?
UC IPM calls the German cockroach the most persistent and troublesome cockroach, because it lives and breeds where food is prepared. It turns up in homes, schools, restaurants, hospitals, warehouses and apartments. An adult can hide in a crack 1/16 inch wide.
How much does pest control cost in Sacramento?
Our home plans are $39 a month quarterly, $49 a month bi-monthly or $79 a month monthly, plus a $150 initial cost. The pricing page lists what each includes. Commercial work is priced per site after a walk of the building.
Do restaurants have to have pest control?
Section 114259.1 of the California Health and Safety Code says the premises of each food facility shall be kept free of vermin. In Sacramento County, the Environmental Management Department Food Protection Program enforces that code. It permits and inspects retail food facilities, incorporated cities included.
How to control pests in a restaurant?
UC IPM’s cockroach notes put sanitation and sealing first: clean up spills at once, vacuum cracks and crevices, keep food in sealed containers, and close the gaps pests use. Baits do better than sprays. Section 114259 of the Health and Safety Code also says a food facility must be built and run to keep vermin out.
What to do before pest control?
Have someone free to walk the site with the technician, since the delivery areas, waste storage, kitchen or stockroom, drains and perimeter all get looked at. Tell the office where you have seen droppings, gnawing or live pests.
