How spider control works in Roseville
Spider work is mostly mechanical, and the established webbing comes down first because it marks where spiders settle.
The eaves, door frames, light fittings and garage corners are then treated, along with the insects the spiders are there to catch. The University of California’s Pest Notes on spiders say insecticides do not give long-term control outdoors. They say to put the effort into removing webs and hiding places.
The UC note sorts spiders by how they hunt, and the groups look different on a house. Orb weavers spin elaborate webs in concentric circles. Funnel weavers spin a flat sheet with a funnel at one end in low vegetation, and the sheet shows up best in the morning after the dew collects on it.
Cobweb spiders spin irregular, sticky webs and hang in them upside down, and the black widow belongs to that group. Wolf spiders spin no capture web and hunt on the ground.
Which spiders actually matter
The note names the western black widow as the most common harmful spider in California. The adult female is shiny black with a red or orange hourglass underneath, and her web is a rough, tough-stranded mesh found in dark, dry, undisturbed places such as woodpiles and cluttered garages.
People get bitten when they reach into one of those places while cleaning out. The note says brown recluse spiders do not live in California, and that a spider seen in the open in daylight is unlikely to bite.
What the plans cover
Spiders are one of the pests every plan covers, at $39, $49 or $79 a month. A shorter gap between visits gives webbing less time to build up. The plans leave out termites, birds, wildlife and fumigation because we do not do that work, and the full plan terms are on the pricing page.

Why Roseville homes get spiders
Roseville is the most populous city in Placer County, with 147,773 people at the 2020 census. Several streams run through it: Dry Creek, Linda Creek, Secret Ravine and Cirby Creek.
The UC note says the more insects there are inside a building, the more likely it is to have spiders living there. It also says trimming plant growth away from the house discourages spiders from taking up residence near it.
The UC note says new houses in developments may be invaded by wolf spiders that have lost their usual outdoor living places. Wolf spiders hunt on the ground instead of in a web, and the note says large hunting spiders are sometimes found in homes or garages.
The first rains
NOAA’s 1991-2020 normals for the Represa station, about 7.9 miles from the Roseville map point, show 0.43 inch of rain from June through September and 2.56 inches in October and November alone. The UC note says immature and adult female burrow-living spiders sometimes wander during the rainy season when they have had to abandon wet burrows. It says the large hunting spiders found indoors are often fully grown male wolf spiders and tarantulas searching for females.

Do I need spider control?
Look for webbing in the eaves, the garage corners, and around door frames and light fittings, or egg sacs in sheltered corners. Indoors, the UC note says a web with dust on it is an old one that is no longer in use. An occupied web is kept clean to catch prey.
Black widow egg sacs are mostly round, about half an inch across, creamy yellow to light tan, and papery on the surface. If you find sacs like that, tell us where when you call. Gloves are worth wearing when you clear out a garage or a woodpile, because the UC note says people are most likely to be bitten when they disturb a black widow while cleaning out dark, dry places.
Between visits, UC IPM suggests keeping lighting fixtures off the walls and away from doorways where you can, because outdoor lights draw insects and the insects draw spiders.
Keep boxes off the garage floor and away from the walls, tape them shut, and keep leaf litter and heavy planting back from the foundation. Seal gaps around doors and windows, and keep screens in good shape.

“Great service overall. I contacted Tim for a house treatment, and he explained the process and what I should expect. He answered all of my questions. He removed all the webs outside and treated every crack in the concrete and the entire perimeter of the house. Within about 15 minutes, I noticed cockroaches coming out of the treated areas, and I later found dead spiders around the house. We found our new long term pest control company! Thank you!”

Frequently asked questions: spider control in Roseville
How much does it cost to have an exterminator get rid of spiders?
It is part of the monthly plans, which cost $39, $49 or $79 with a $150 initial cost. The pricing page and the general pest control page list what each plan includes.
What gets rid of spiders permanently?
Nothing removes them permanently, because the insects they feed on keep arriving. The lasting part is taking away the webs and hiding places: the UC note says insecticides do not give long-term control outdoors. Webs come down, the eaves, door frames and garage get treated, and the plan keeps the webbing from building back up.
Are there poisonous spiders in Sacramento?
One that matters. UC IPM says most spiders have venom for their prey but only a few cause a serious reaction in people. The western black widow is the most common harmful spider in California and stays mostly out of sight in dark, dry places like woodpiles and garages, and anyone bitten by one should stay calm and get medical advice.
What is the best insect killer for spiders?
UC IPM says insecticides do not give long-term spider control outdoors. Indoors, it says certain drying dusts that only professional pest control applicators can use give lasting protection when left as a thin film in cracks, gaps and attics. Around the house, removing webs, hiding places and the insects that draw spiders does more.
Are exterminators worth it for spiders?
For webbing that keeps coming back around the eaves and garage, a plan visit clears it on a schedule. Spiders are on all three plans. UC IPM also says most spiders are beneficial insect predators, so the aim is to keep them off the house rather than out of the garden.
Can I fumigate my house for spiders?
We do not do fumigation. UC IPM says insecticides do not give long-term spider control outdoors, and that indoors vacuuming works well because spiders rarely survive the trip through the hose.
